Did you know that heart attack symptoms in women can be more subtle, and therefore, we are more at risk of dying from a heart attack? My friend Karen lost both parents and a sister to heart disease. So here are my Cliff Notes…if you experience any of these signs of a heart attack, dial 9-1-1 for an ambulance:
1. Unusual fatigue
2. Shortness of breath
3. Nausea
4. Dizziness
5. Lower chest or upper abdominal pressure or discomfort
6. Back or jaw pain
7. Pressure, squeezing pain in the center of the chest
8. Pain spreading to the neck, shoulder or jaw
In one study of women under the age of 50 who had heart attacks, most failed to realize they were having one, mistaking it for fatigue, indigestion, stress, or overexertion.
