Dietary Golden Rules

Last week, I attended a wellness seminar by Dr. Marynn Prewitt of Aesthetic Elegance Med Spa and Women’s Health Clinic (www.theGiftofElegance.com ). Much of what she talked about–the importance of muscle and resistance workouts–I’ve covered in earlier blogs. However, her “Golden Rules” for nutrition were wonderful little nuggets worth repeating.

*NEVER miss a meal, especially breakfast.

*NEVER cut out fruits & vegetables, which are important sources of fiber, vitamins, enzymes and phytonutrients.

*Avoid processed foods, refined foods, white flour and sugar.

*Avoid saturated and trans fats.

*Avoid sodas and juices.

*Avoid Alcohol (another form of sugar).

*Be sure to take 300 mg of calcium with each meal and 1000 IU vitamin D/ day.

*Eat 5-6 small meals per day.

*Eat every 3-4 hours.

* HYDRATE, hydrate, hydrate 1 oz. per pound.

I loved her quote about moderation and indulgence. She suggested the “Catholic” diet…eat like an angel 6 days a week… but one day a week, “Make the devil blush!”

Gotta love it! Have a fantastic week. Revisit your goals. Every day provides new opportunities for success, wellness, and joy.

Stay strong.
