Eat FAT, Get LEAN

Interesting thought, eh? Well, it’s not exactly a thought. It’s a fact that has been confirmed repeatedly in multiple studies the past few years.

Women seem to do especially well on a modertate-fat diet that consists of 35% of their calories coming from fat. So what is the connection with fat and your diet?

For one thing, fat slows digestion and aids in nutrient absorption. When you stay full longer, that’s a good thing. Two, fat helps control blood sugar and insulin spikes after eating carbs–another good thing. You store less fat when you have better sugar metabolism. Three, essential fatty acids may boost your metabolic rate and fat burning. Now THAT one is a big WOO-HOO!  And last, fat just plain tastes good. I LOVE nuts and avocados and olive oil dressings. I just had a granny smith apple and a tablespoon of almond butter. Yum!

There have been a bunch o’ studies about the added benefits of being satisfied longer and how it helps you stick to healthier eating habits.

So how and what should you eat? Just what I mentioned above. Real food is my usual preference, but let’s face it, it’s not always practical. I carry fish oil with me so I can get my good fats if eating lunch of dinner out–and it’s not available in a food form (fish, nuts, avacados, ground flax seeds, etc.). For healthy fats on the GO, try a number of our Omega 3 products and GET LEAN!
