As we move into the New Year, many have goals or resolutions to exercise more, eat healthier, and/or lose weight. Whatever the goal, remember the “power of the pen”! WRITE your goal, post it, and verbalize it. Each of these steps increases your personal committment– as well as your chances for success, whatever the endeavor.
Take the goals of eating healthy or losing weight. The simple act of recording your meals and snacks helps you maintain better portions and helps keep reality in check. And you might recall a few months back, I reported on a study where they folks who logged their food intake lost TWICE as much weight as the non-trackers. When food logging is combined with a moderate diet and exercise, the results are astounding. Plus, journaling provides insight to your eating and workout habits. For example, when do you tend to skip workouts or meals–or how about the circumstances preceeding a food splurge? Knowing when these things tend to happen helps you determine the changes needed to combat the challenges.
So, try it. Whatever your goals, write them down. Log your success, your workouts, and your food intake.
What have you got to lose? More importantly, what have you got to GAIN?
Be strong, be healthy. Happy holidays!
Great idea, thanks for this tip!
