Since it is resolution time, I thought I would share highlights brought to you from our friends at Runners World Magazine (a great site full of support, help, training and tools…but no great priced supplements!!) As a reminder from last week’s blog, the key to any goal or resolution achievement is to set realistic, measurable, specific, attainable goals. Here are some suggestions from Runners World magazine. You can find the complete article at www.runnersworld.com .
1. East Breakfast. For those of you who skip it to save calories, studies show you actually end up eating more throughout the day. Breakfast really is the most important meal of the day and it helps give your metabolism a kick start each morning after fasting through the night.
2. Take Notes. People who keep track/log of what they eat lose twice as much weight as folks who don’t. There are many online sites that are free that can help you with this endeavor. Try these sites:
www.nutritiondata.com
www.fitlog.com
www.livestrong.com (daily plate)
3. Plan to Eat. Think ahead about what you plan to eat during the week and for snacks. The average restaurant diner underestimates the calories eaten as much as 93%!! Can you afford that?
4. Nix Late Night Noshing. Make sure you eat enough at snacks and meals to fuel yourself throughout the day so you aren’t starving at night.
5. Think Like an Athlete, Not a Dieter. Athletes should focus on slow, steady weight loss which provides for enough fuel for training while bolster chance of keeping weight off for good.
6. Eat Better. Don’t beat yourself up when you have an occasional slip. One study found that 71% of successful dieters allowed slip ups to strengthen their resolve. If you indulge, enjoy it and just get right back on the nutrition wagon.
Most of all, remember how good you are being to yourself. Every effort is a step in the right direction. Good luck!!!
